Project Name: Investing in Early Childhood development
Working Areas: 45 Schools of Gajuri Rural Municipality
Project duration: July 2020-July 2023
Targeted beneficiaries:
· 1250 children in three years
· 490 families
· 200 Child Development Stakeholders (Facilitators, Principals and Business Officers)
· 15 Village Municipality Officers
· Communities of Gajuri village municipality
Project objectives:
1. Develop Public, Community and Private EC Services (Access Focus)
- Improving Early Childhood Care and Education ( Quality Focus)
- Building the capacity of local actors and stakeholders and raising awareness of local communities on early childhood development (Capacity Focus)
Project Activities
1. 9 days ECD facilitation skills training
2. Family development Methodology Training
3. Training on ECD materials preparation from local resources
4. ECD materials and supplies support for 10 schools
5. Psychosocial issues training
6. Project implementation and monitoring committee formation and meeting
7. Review meeting with local authorities
8. Pilot committee meeting
9. Preparation and Broadcasting of ECD related Radio jingle
10. Parental Education session
Project Achievements:
1. Increase in number of children in schools after regular school visit.
2. Separate early child development classes have been set up in schools after 9 days of child development class management and content development training.
3. Preparing an information booklet for ECD facilitators on child-friendly child development classroom management and content creation and facilitation.
4. ECD classroom management furniture, reading, playing and teaching materials has been supported to 11 ECD center
5. 342 children were supported a learning and playing materials
6. 23 ECD facilitator were trained on psychosocial issues.
7. 21 cases are recorded and referred during home visit.
Project Challenges:
1. To have all the parents present at the parent meeting
2. To manage separate early childhood development classes in the school
3. To make some facilitators more responsible and operational
4. To increase the responsibility towards child development
5. To increase the equal understanding and responsibility of adults and stakeholders towards child development
6. Lack of realistic statistics on school.
Project Learnings:
Ø Conducting different activities by liaising and coordinating with local bodies is more effective.
Ø Conducting workshop on role of stakeholders in school development at each school develop belongingness.
Ø Direct meetings and monitoring with ECD facilitators is necessary to facilitate and expedite the implementation the action plan prepared by facilitators
