Local Governance and Community Development Program

Program Area: Jyamruna, Katunje, Sangkos and Dhuwakot VDCs of Dhading District.

The Local Governance and Community Development Programme (LGCDP), a National programme with an over arching goal to contribute towards poverty reduction through inclusive, responsive and accountable local governance and participatory community -led development. The ministry of local development is executing agency for LGCDP with technical and financial assistance from various development partners. Prayash Nepal is implementing LGCDP in partnership with District Development Committee Dhading with the aims to empowerment of citizens and communities for active engagement with local governments and strengthening downward accountability, Capacity Development of local governments for effective service delivery. Underprivileged groups do not have the idea or the information about the facilities they can get through the government and non-government sector. This makes their life even more deprived in terms of education, health, awareness. Its over-arching goal is to contribute towards poverty reduction through inclusive responsive and accountable local governance and participatory community-led development that ensures increased involvement of disadvantaged groups including women, Dalits, Janajati in the local governance and community development processes. Major aims are to;

  1. Empowered community to exercise their voice and to engage actively with local governments on resource allocation and decision making.
  2. Increased capacity of local governments to manage resources and deliver basic services in an inclusive and equitable manner. 

Major Activities:

  • Interaction with VDC secretaty
  • Orientation to local level stakeholders
  • Prapare VDC situation report
  • Prapare Social Mapping of VDC
  • Conduct Reflect class.
  • Ward Citizen Forum mobilization (ward Nagarik Manch)

Major achievements/changes:

  • Ward Citizen Forums are formed in 4 target VDCs and regularly running smoothly.
  • The level of awareness of community people has been increased due to regular reflect class.
  • The involvement of women in the development sectors has been increased than previous day.
  • All the planning made by Ward Citizen Forum with the involvement of all community people has been approved and implemented.
  • Resource mapping and well being ranking has been completed in each ward of four  target VDCs
  • Underprivileged groups/ back warded community people have access in the government facilities.
