Bhim Bahadur Chepang

Dhading, Nepal, 11 January 2012- This is a story of Pragatisil child club at Dolvanjyang Secondary School Pida VDC-4, Dhading who is successful continuing teachers' performance assessment in their school. This is a first and innovative effort in Nepal.

In the initial period, child club members were confused what to do or what not. But while Prayas Nepal organized trainings, workshops on child rights and child protection, Role and responsibility of child club members. After that child club members became clear what should they do in the school and in the community. "Before child club formation, we always feared from the teachers, we were unable to express our feelings and unable to stand in front of teachers, but now we are a part of school family. We can express our feelings and discuss with teachers." Shusila Pulami (Chairperson of child club) expressed her feelings.

Now Pragatisil Child club is started teachers' daily work performance in every period by marking different sign. The core of assessment is daily observation of teachers i.e. what time teacher enter in the class room after ringing the bell, how many times spent in class room, whether the teachers' teaching method is effective or not etc. In the every class there are child club members. The child club members gives right marks in the different box that mention above. In the end of the every month, they organized a review meeting with teachers', child club members in the presence of School management Committee body. They read out every teacher's monthly teaching performance. This concept is developed by child club members and Vice Principle Binod Rupakheti.

"While child club members started teachers' assessment, in the starting for the some teachers it was difficult to digest because that was first time in Dhading even in Nepal where children were doing assessment of teachers. But slowly and gradually we all accept it. Now due to this initiation, all the teachers are aware on their responsibilities. No any teacher stays even in a minute while the bell rings. They spend full 45 minutes in the class. So it is contributing for the quality education too." Ishori Prasad Dhungana (Head Master) expressed his views.

It is a great job from Pragatisil Child club. Now many child clubs and schools visiting the child club and Dolavanjyang School. Other child clubs also trying to adopt in their school. Good luck and keep continue to Pragatisil child club from our side.

Children participation is limited only within the boundary of extra activities. However children’s participation in the school governance not only benefits them in their all round development but also supports for the improvement and management development of the school and ultimately helps to create the healthy and fair society to live in. Therefore, the children participation in overall development of school is the most essential, not only to have good outcome of their performance but also to develop their self confidences to make the right decision and help to make the harmonious society and nation. Due to the CCCD Project in Pida and Mahadevsthan VDCs children participation is increasing in every part which is positive change.
