Yeti; successful to take the footstep to success
Sabina Chepang, 16 years old girl permanent residence of Dhading District, Nepal, Mahadevsthan-1 Ghairang, is studying in grade five. She has 8 family members; father, mother, brother, sister and herself.
Her father is farmer and mother is Self-Reliance Group (SRG) member. Her father always used to drink alcohol. He was against of sending children in school. When she was admitted in grade one, she went continue school only for five months. Her father used to stop her from going to school just because to get support in household work.
Before three years, Ram Chepang from a NGO, Prayash facilitated a women group formation in her village. As her mother was in the group, one day she also went in meeting with her mother. Women empowerment, rights and education was discussed in the meeting. Community based children's club also formed in her village and she joined in the club. She involved in extracurricular activities and also in different agenda/issues discussed in the meeting. She knew child rights, women rights & importance of education. Ram Chepang suggested her to get enroll again in school but she felt uncomfortable as her age was older than other children of small grade.
She shared with her mother. Her mother was very happy and also encouraged her to join school again. Ram Chepang talked with school head teacher and she joined at grade 5 after 6 years. Some stationery was supported from Prayash. Sabina said, "My father again tried to stop me, my mother supported me, she discussed with him and because of my mother, I am in school now. I hope, one day Prayash will make clear the importance of education to my father as well."
Now, she is encouraged from teachers, friends and Prayash team. She has dream to complete school level education and to be a good teacher in future. She is trying hard to fulfill the dream. She would like to thank to Ram and Prayash team.
